Alor, a remote archipelago in Indonesia, is a true paradise for divers. We spent three weeks exploring the underwater world of this region and had some unforgettable experiences. We spent the first two weeks at Savu South Resort, followed by a week at Alami Alor Dive Resort. Our daily routine consisted of two to three dives per day, and each dive brought new discoveries.
How do you get to Alor, Indonesia?
We flew to Jakarta via Singapore. After a 14-hour stay in Jakarta at the hotel "The 101 Jakarta Airport", we continued to Kupang (West Timor) at 2 a.m. and then took a short flight to Alor. There we were picked up by the team from SAVU South Alor. A 30-minute drive took us to the boat, which then took us another 45 minutes to the resort, where we were warmly welcomed with a delicious welcome drink.
Week 1-2: SAVU South Resort
SAVU South Resort is located in the south of Alor on the coast and offers luxurious accommodation with direct access to some of the best dive scuba diving sites in Alor. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and immediately felt the relaxed atmosphere of the place.
The dives
Our daily dives took us to different dive sites, each unique and fascinating. From colorful coral gardens to spectacular drop offs, Alor has it all. Particularly impressive was the dive site "Anvil", in the very south of Alor, where we saw a variety of reef fish, special rock formations and colorful corals. This site cannot always be dived as it faces the open sea and therefore the conditions for diving and the outward journey must be optimal.
Highlights
Macro diving: Alor is known for its diverse macro fauna. While diving in the shallower areas, we discovered rare nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses and the holy grail, rhinopias.
Drift diving: For the adventurous, drift dives offer a thrilling experience. Large schools of fish and pelagic species can be observed in these waters. Unfortunately, we weren't so lucky and didn't see any hammerhead sharks, mola molas or thresher sharks. Instead, we saw many schools of fish and intact reefs.
Relaxation and luxury: The resort not only offered excellent diving opportunities, but also a high level of comfort and luxury. After the dives, we relaxed with massages, enjoyed the delicious Indonesian cuisine and ended the day in a cozy atmosphere.

Week 3: Alami Alor Dive Resort
After two fantastic weeks at Savu South Resort, we were drawn to Alami Alor, a dive resort specializing in underwater photography, known for its personalized service and exclusive location in Kalabahi Bay. Here we enjoyed a week of complete relaxation and exceptional diving.
The dives
Here, too, we continued our routine of two to three dives per day. We were also able to do more night dives here, as the bay is less exposed to the current. The crystal-clear water and pristine reefs of Alor offered ideal conditions for our underwater explorations. The dives on the house reef, which is located directly in front of the resort, were particularly outstanding.
Highlights:
Underwater photography: Alami Alor is a paradise for underwater photographers. The diverse underwater world offered numerous motifs, from colorful reef fish to exotic macro creatures.
Exclusive dive sites: Thanks to the limited number of guests throughout Alor, we often had the feeling that we had the dive sites to ourselves. This is because the dive resorts coordinate with each other so that everyone gets their money's worth. This allowed us to enjoy the underwater world in peace and explore it undisturbed.
Night diving: The night dives were particularly magical. Countless frogfish, octopus, countless crabs and shrimps as well as colorful nudibranchs made these dives unforgettable.

Summary
Our three-week diving vacation in Alor was an unforgettable adventure. The combination of first-class dives, breathtaking and unspoiled underwater world and the warm hospitality at both resorts made this trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Alor enchanted us with its beauty and diversity and we can't wait to return one day. For all diving enthusiasts looking for an exotic and less crowded destination, we can highly recommend Alor.
